I had surgery at Accuvision around three and half weeks ago. My prescription was around -7 in both eyes, with some astigmatism and very thin corneas. I was terribly disappointed to be turned down by Optimax about two years ago, because of this combination of high prescription and thin corneas.
When I first saw the advert for Accuvision and how it could treat cases that other places couldn't, I was initially a bit sceptical. It was only by idly surfng the net one day, that I came across this website and saw all the rave reviews that people had given to Accuvision. This convinced me to give them a call. At my consultation, which was very thorough, I was told that they could treat me, but I was only just eligible, because of my thin corneas. However, because of the more advanced laser technology they were able to leave more than the recommended corneal thickness. They informed me that they couldn't guarantee that I would have perfect sight after surgery, but there was a chance that I might have some some mild refraction and need glasses occasionally. I was never put under any pressure whatsoever.
I decided to have the surgery (£4K) and went ahead with it two weeks later. The actual surgery was stressful, but painfree. They explain exactly what to expect during the procedure, which definately helped. For the first 5-6 hours after surgery, my eyes were watering so much that I couldn't open them at all. They were also prickling like crazy. The next day, my eyes were rather red and swollen, but my vision was perfect. I seemed to experience more post-operative discomfort than most people, because for the first 5 days after
surgery my eyes were very dry, itchy and uncomfortable and the liquid tears didn't help alleviate it at all. I found that previously, I couldn't wear contact lenses for more than a few hours at a time, because my eyes started feeling really dry, so this probably made me more susceptical to it. However, just as I was beginning to despair and wonder if I'd done the right thing, my eyes suddenly started feeling a lot better. They now feel totally normal and when I had my check up after the first week, I was told that my eyes had healed well, I wouldn't need glasses at all and I had 20:20 vision. They also gave me some gel tears which were more effective for me than the liquid tears.
I feel that I definately made the right decision to have laser surgery at Accuvision. My vision is fab. my eyes feel totally normal now and it has given me a whole new lease of life. I still find myself reaching for my glasses out of habit or feeling that I need to take my lenses out before going to sleep. I've also found that it's great to be able to go away and not have to pack alll the parathenalia associated with wearing glassses and contact lenses. I'm very grateful to Accuvision. No regrets at all.

I went for my consultation with Vik on May 20th, which lasted longer than I thought (2 hours), but was very thorough. I have decided to go ahead with LASIK in early July, and now have to endure the waiting which is surely the worst bit. Accuvision have been personally recommended to me by a close friend who now can't stop reading number plates from miles away, after being short sighted for years. I look forward to a successful outcome, and will put my post-surgery comments on this page..

I had a consultation with Vik at Accuvision in March and am considering having LASIK in July or August. I have - 6 in both eyes with slight astigmatism, however my pupils when dilated are 7.5mm and 8.5mm.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has undergone LASIK (either successfully or unsuccessfully) with a pupil size of over 8mm.
I am confident that the service offered by Accuvision is one of the best in the industry, but before biting the bullet would find it helpful to hear from others who have undergone the proceedure with similar prescription and pupil size!

Having had a bad experience with Ultralase (see my post 26-May-03), I thought all was lost until I came accross this website and began reading some of the posts here about accuvision!
So booked a consultation - my prescription was -9 & -8.25 with slight astigmatism.
Vic was very thorough, and never put me under any pressure. These guys specialise in hard prescriptions - Ultralase couldn't do me because my pupils dilate to 7mm and they could only treat a 6mm surface, plus they would have left me 250microns corneal thickness (excluding flap).Vic & Daryus prescribed a customised Lasik method (I wouldn't need wavefront), which would require an inverted flap and extra thin flap of 100 microns- the total cost would be £4k.
I went ahead with surgery last week (fri) - painless procedure, (just uncomfortable), no post op pain, just a little stinging for an hour, and light sensitivity for 2/3 hours. I had to wear a protective contact lense over night so this slowed the healing process which meant I had cloudy/hazy vision the next day (sat) - by sunday morning I had very clear vision which improved every day after - I was back at work on the Tuesday.
I had my 1 week check and have 20/15! (better than 20/20) - these guys are awesome!
because of the combination of inverted and thin flap it meant that my corneal thickness was approx 310microns in both eyes (compare that to Ultralase's 250microns)!
It was expensive but these guys are way ahead of the rest.

I finally went ahead with my surgery on 24th March with Accuvision. (Decided against Centre for Sight for a number of reasons - see comments under their heading)
I am tempted to write Ditto, ditto, ditto, ditto because every positive comment I have read about Accuvision on this website is TRUE!!!! However I will be more specific for the benefit of the people I have promised. (by the way, thank you to all of you who contacted me since my first posting with all your encouraging comments)
I had -3 in both eyesand large pupils! I had wavefront treatment performed by M Rostron with all the usual team present (and a few spectators if I remember correctly) The procedure was painless and I am glad I didn't work myself into a state beforehand because it wouldn't have been worth it. It's over so quickly, there's no time to panic in there.
I'm delighted with the results(better than 20/20 in both eyes) and they have done such a good job of the flaps that 24 hours after surgery an experienced optician could not see the hinge!
The first few days were hazy and uncomfortable - very similar feeling to that of having worn your contacts for far too long! Each day got clearer and clearer and after one week my eyesight was fantastic! Night vision has also improved dramatically although that was slower in coming. Nothing left to say apart from thanks to all at Accuvision, especially Nick Dash who spent hours answering all of my questions!!
To all of you considering surgery - go to Accuvision - it may be more expensive than some of the 'high street' outfits but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! You only have one pair of eyes!
